I have boxes full of old family photographs. Some are very old, like the snapshot above of my grandfather's brothers, my great uncles, out on the farm when they were little boys. I love the hats they are wearing and I wonder if they were borrowed from adults to have this picture taken. The brothers were both long gone by the time I was born and I only know them through family stories. And yet seeing this photograph, where it is displayed in my studio space, I feel like I get to meet them everyday.
As a photographer with a love of the great outdoors, this is a favorite quote of mine. I feel very fortunate to live where I do as Colorado offers up some beautiful locations which few people venture to, leaving them virtually untouched. The following photographs were taken in a few of these places.
On a drive to an early appointment, I chose to take the longer route using less traveled roads skirting around a congested school zone, an endless array of poorly timed street signals, and heavy traffic consisting mostly of disgruntled morning commuters sipping from their coffee laden travel mugs.
The extended journey was an ideal time to listen to a favorite podcast!
The gentle swirling breeze picks up in strength causing wave-like ripples along the tips of the tall grasses as they dip and sway with rhythmical movement, reminiscent of the surface of water.
Often, like magic, a title will form without any intentional effort on my part while I am pressing the shutter button on the camera, capturing the intended image.
